What fostering actually is

A foster home is a safe, nurturing place for a greyhound to land — somewhere to relax and adjust, away from the track, while they wait for their forever family.

You help with the basics — house manners, crate training, walking on a leash — and introduce your hound to new experiences, people, and other pets. Mostly, you offer the affection and stability that build trust.

Greyt Angels covers the rest: food, medical care, and all the equipment you need, plus training resources and a team you can reach around the clock.

What does a foster parent actually do?

Day to day: feeding, a couple of walks, and a great deal of supervised napping. Over the weeks you teach the invisible things — stairs, hardwood floors, being alone for an hour — and you tell us what kind of family will actually fit this dog. That report is the most valuable thing a foster produces.

What does Greyt Angels provide?

A complete supply package — food, medical care, and all the equipment your foster needs — plus training resources, a team available around the clock for questions and advice, and a community of fellow foster families.

Does fostering cost me anything?

No — fostering is completely free. We cover all the costs of your foster dog’s care; fees apply only to adoption. And if you do spend your own money along the way, unreimbursed foster expenses may even be tax-deductible — ask a tax professional.

How long is the commitment?

It’s flexible — you foster for a period that suits your schedule. We’ll talk through timing when we get in touch to discuss fostering.

Do I need to live near Goshen?

Yes — foster homes need to be within a 2-hour radius of Goshen, Indiana, so every hound has access to the support they need. Sighthound experience is preferred, but reach out either way.

How do I become a foster?

Four steps. Contact us — or complete the adoption/fostering application if you’re ready. We’ll get in touch to discuss fostering and answer your questions. Then we help you prepare your home and schedule a home visit. After that, you welcome your foster dog.
